Rains expected to pound various parts of country

Rainfall is expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.

Rains will also pound the Central and South Rift Valley throughout the forecast period.

“The Northwest, Northeast and isolated areas over the southeast may experience rainfall from Sunday,” Kenya Meteorological Department director Dr David Gikungu said.

The daily forecast was released on March 9 and will be applied for the next five days.

Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties will on Saturday to Tuesday morning receive rains.

The said counties will receive showers over a few areas from Saturday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon and the maximum temperatures will be 30 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature will be 12 degrees Celsius.

Turkana and Samburu counties will have sunny intervals on Saturday morning before ushering in rain over a few areas until Tuesday.

This is a reprieve for the two counties that have been grappling with an ongoing drought.

Close to five million are in dire need of humanitarian assistance in some of the counties with the worst hit being in arid and semi-arid areas.

Millions of cattle, as well as wildlife, have since died as the lack of water and pasture persists.

The state has however started distributing relief food to those in dire need.

Wildlife is also being provided with hay and water, with the state having set aside Sh98 million.

On Saturday afternoon, the two counties will experience sunny intervals with  a chance of showers over a few areas until Tuesday.

At night, the two counties will experience partly cloudy that will usher in showers over a few areas.

The minimum temperatures in the two counties of Turkana and Samburu will be 15 degrees Celsius while the maximum will be 38 degrees Celsius.

Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi counties will on Saturday morning receive sunny intervals with a chance of rain over a few areas up to Tuesday.

The 10 counties will experience showers over a few areas from Saturday afternoon until Tuesday.

At night, the 10 counties might have showers over a few areas until Tuesday.

The minimum temperature in the 10 counties will be nine degrees Celsius while the maximum will be 29 degrees Celsius.

Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties will on Saturday morning receive sunny intervals before ushering in some rains over a few areas.

In the afternoon, the five counties will on Saturday be sunny with a chance of showers over a few areas until Tuesday.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a chance of showers over a few areas until Tuesday.

The minimum temperature in the five counties will be 17 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 38 degrees Celsius.

Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties will on Saturday morning be cloudy/ sunny with a chance of rain over a few areas until Tuesday.

Sunny intervals will also be experienced on Saturday afternoon with a chance of showers over a few areas until Tuesday.

The minimum temperature in the five counties will be 14 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 35 degrees Celsius.

Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties will on Saturday morning be sunny until Monday with  a chance of showers over a few areas on Tuesday.

In the afternoon, the five counties will on Saturday experience showers over a few areas before paving way for sunny intervals on Monday and Tuesday.

Nights will be partly cloudy while temperatures will be in ranges of 24 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius.
