Clinicians working at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital have a reason to smile after the union and the facility came up with a new deal.
In a Collective Bargaining Agreement registered before Hon Lady Justice Stella of the Employment and Labor Relations Court in Nairobi, clinicians will now benefit from increased house risk and leave allowances.
Other allowances revised upwards and approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission include commuter, Health Workers Service, emergency call and extraneous allowances.
The process between the hospital and the Kenya Union of Clinical officers which commenced on June 16, 2021, was concluded on September 30, 2022, when the final CBA document was signed by the parties.
With the effective date of the CBA agreed to be July 1, 2022, clinicians will receive an enhanced basic salary per job group.
“We thank the management of MTRH under the leadership of Dr Wilson Aruasa for giving social dialogue a sounding meaning within the negotiation concept, and for according us a conducive environment throughout the negotiations period and after,” KUCO SG George Gibore said.
“We also urge the national, county governments, and KNH to emulate this good gesture by embracing social dialogue that will address most issues affecting HRH and the health system at large,” he added.
The CBA, according to Gibore, has established six grades for registered Clinical Officers (Diploma Holders) and four grades for Clinical Officers (Degree Holders) and established the Directorate of Clinical Medicine as approved by the PSC.
Gibore has reiterated the union’s commitment to embrace dialogue and emphasize the primacy of collective bargaining in setting harmonious working conditions even as they continue to advocate for the rights of their members and ensure quality health for all Kenyans.
