Suba South MP Caroli Omondi who is among the nine ODM leaders facing imminent expulsion over their State House visit has reacted over the party decision.
Terming the allegations of “dalliance” as unfounded and misplaced, Omondi has challenged ODM to provide evidence to the effect.
Reproving ODM leader Raila over his statement not to recognise Ruto's presidency, Omondi said such had been validated.
"The legitimacy of the President has been validated by all the competent organs of the government empowered to do so under our Constitution," he notes
He maintained that he met Ruto and his deputy as a parliamentarian and in the discharge of duties adding he enjoys “freedom of mandate” as opposed to “bound mandate”.
“I met the President in his capacity as the Head of State and Government, as the person vested to exercise the executive authority of the Republic of Kenya, and as the symbol of national unity and to promote and enhance the unity of the nation,” said the MP.
In a strongly worded letter to party chairman John Mbadi, the legislator says accusations disclose no cause for any disciplinary action but constitute a basis for a political witch-hunt.
“I flatly deny and reject the contents of your letter and those in the attachment thereto and put the maker of those unfounded and misplaced allegations to strict proof thereof,” the letter reads.
In the letter to the nine MPs who met President William Ruto, Mbadi has accused them of trying to undermine party leader Raila Odinga.
“Your public display, conduct and general comportment not only violate Section 14A of the Political Parties Act, 2021 but also Article 11 of the party constitution and the party’s Code of Conduct that you signed,” the letter signed by Mbadi states in part.
Poking holes in the letter, Omondi has even torn into the complainant cited in their case arguing he is a junior member known for hopping from one party to another.
“He is a junior member with a record of twice defecting from the party and campaigning vigorously against the party and its candidates,” Omondi claims.
