Valentines day is marked to express love or appreciation to the ones they hold dear.

For the men and women in blue, this year's valentines was a special one as they were treated to a luncheon for maintaining high security and peace in the Central Business District last year.

Led by Nairobi Central subcounty police commander Raphael Kimilu the officers got to enjoy a meal and interact with the business community.

Kimilu expressed joy at the recognition noting that the police are rarely feted publicly for their efforts in the community.

He thanked the business community for engaging with the police officers to ensure that the city is safe.

"I want to appreciate the time I've been here. We have collaborated with the business community which has helped us in matters to do with security," he said.

"We have been reaching out, They have assisted in providing crucial pieces of evidence such as CCTV in times of need by the police."

He called for proper communication channels between members of the community and those in the police force to ensure security is bolstered.

"Let us continue with that collaboration, reach out to us as we reach out to you. That is the only way we'll ensure that security is provided," he said.

Kimilu also urged all citizens to reach out to the police when in need of help and to provide information to the police when called on to do so.

The luncheon was part of a series of corporate social responsibility events geared towards promoting and showing appreciation to certain groups in the community.

Previous events have honoured the elderly and healthcare stakeholders who were crucial in the fight against Covid-19.
