Kenyans, dignitaries pray for 'physical, spiritual' rain

The National Prayer Day is underway at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

Leaders and Kenyans of all walks of life have been trooping to the venue from 8 am for the event.

First Lady Rachel Ruto is among dignitaries who have already made their way to the stadium to pray for "physical and spiritual" rain.

President William Ruto, who called for the prayers is expected at the event later in the day.

Top government officials and politicians are also expected to attend.

By mid morning, a few thousands had taken their seats under the scorching sun.

Several ambulances were on standby to respond to medical emergencies.

The National Youth Service deployed personnel to direct people to their seats as they arrived for the occasion.

At the gates, police officers took no chances as they frisked all those arriving for the event.

Vendors were not left out, as they also trooped to the event to take care of the thirsty and hungry.
