[PHOTOS]: Gachagua presides over 45th Lions Day at UN

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday presided over the 45th Lions Day at UN, Nairobi.

He said that Kenya is proud to be associated with Lions clubs, a respected global humanitarian organisation for many years.

"Today, on behalf of President William Ruto, I gave a keynote address during the 45th Lions Day with the UN at the UN offices in Nairobi," the DP said in a statement.

He said that the organisation saved lives when Covid 19 pandemic hit the world.

"When the Covid-19 pandemic ravaged the world, for instance, the 48,000 Lions clubs across the globe and more than 1.4 million volunteers made a great impact on humanity when lockdowns and clouds of uncertainty rocked the world. They saved many lives," Gachagua said.

Gachagua called on Clubs to support efforts to plant 15 billion trees by 2032 under the Jaza Miti Initiative.

He said that Kenya is ready to join hands with partners to seek quick and long-term solutions to challenges, especially prolonged drought.
