Nyamira county assembly condemn Matiang'i 's alleged seige

They condemned leaders who were in support of the siege.

The County Assembly of  Nyamira has come out to condemn the incident that reportedly happened last night where police allegedly put former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i 's Karen home under siege. 

The assembly termed the incident as harassment of the former Interior CS. 

"We join the rest of Kenyans in condemning the unwarranted raid on his residence yesternight and applaud the battery of lawyers and leaders who made it to his home," the community said. 

They said the leaders who showed up thwarted what they said was an evil scheme of returning the country to the dark era of repression characterised by arbitrary night arrests. 

They appreciated Azimio Chief Raila Odinga for showing up and condemning the act.

Further, they condemned leaders who were in support of the siege. 

Nyamira county assembly said they are very proud of their son and hold him in extreme regard for the role he played in rallying the community behind the government he served. 

They claimed what is happening could be a bigger plan that might result in the assassination of the former CS.

"We call on investigative agencies to investigate the raid and request the government to offer enhanced security to Dr Matiang’i," they said. 

As a result of last night’s raid, they suspect that Matiang'is life is in grave danger.

This comes against the backdrop of his security withdrawal.

"We appeal to the President to remain committed to his promise that state machinery is not abused to whatever end," they said. 

That the rule of law should prevail.

They reminded the President that "you used the Bible and God."

"Let the same Bible be your guide with the spirit that you should not do to others what you shouldn’t want to be done unto you."
