Debate on who won the August 9, 2022, presidential election returned on Wednesday with Azimio la Umoja claiming Raila Odinga floored President William Ruto.

The opposition coalition claimed Raila garnered 8,170,355 votes or 57.53 per cent of votes cast against Ruto's 5,915,973 votes (41.66 per cent of votes cast) as alleged by a whistleblower.

Jubilee Party, an affiliate of Azimio, said the opposition is in agreement with the whistleblower.

"We have no reason to doubt the information, which confirmed our fears," Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni said.

Kioni claimed that manipulation of the election results mostly occurred in Mt Kenya region.

"This is a very sad moment for us as a country. More information on the next course of action will be shared later by leaders if the coalition," he stated.

Addressing a press conference in Nairobi, Kioni added that Raila will issue a comprehensive statement when he jets back into the country.

Kioni said the whistleblower should be believed because he shared his identity and contacts.

"Since last year we maintained that the elections did not reflect the will of Kenyans. We still maintain that there was manipulation and rigging," he added.

He said a casual perusal of the document shared by the whistle-blower shows results announced in 144 constituencies varied with what was declared at the national tallying centre.

Kioni further said Raila will also issue a statement on claims that there were plans to kill former IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati during tallying of presidential results.

Raila allies have demanded the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate an alleged murder plot against Chebukati.

In a statement on Tuesday, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina asserted that the claims by President Ruto were serious allegations and needed to be uncovered.

He added that the inquiry must also cover past elections where other electoral officials had lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.

"Mr President, to end all conspiracy theories and the talk on the IEBC debacles, let’s cut to the chase! Set up a commission of inquiry and extend it to cover the last two elections," he stated.

Former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando said an investigation into the allegations would help clean up the country's electoral system.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna censured the President over the allegations and demanded that he substantiates the claims.

The Nairobi Senator, took on Ruto stating that his utterances were weighty.

"Very grave allegations being made regarding what happened at Bomas in the lead up to the announcement of the Presidential result," Sifuna said.

"I'm hoping the people making them will appear before the yet-to-be-formed commission of inquiry and provide the evidence backing these allegations,'
