A man who attacked a police inspector and punched his lips has been charged in court.

Enock Nyabuto was charged before Kibera senior principal magistrate Esther Boke, where he told the court that he acted in good faith to rescue a woman.

At first, he pleaded guilty to the charges but later changed his mind.

The charge sheet shows that the accused person committed the offence on January 16, 2023, at a wines and spirits shop within Nairobi county.

He assaulted police inspector Fred Omori Nyamoko. He also denied the second count of resisting arrest contrary to the law.

The court heard that the officer and his colleagues were on their normal patrol when they came across the wine shop.

They then decided to arrest the lady who was selling alcohol to her client and that is when the accused person decided to block the officers.

He committed the offence alongside others not in court.

The magistrate released him on a Sh200,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh40,000.

The case will be mentioned on January 31, for a pre-trial.
