Police did not fire a single bullet or hurl tear gas canisters at anyone during the 9 August 2022 elections, Assistant Inspector General of Police Judy Lamet has disclosed.

Lamet said training of police officers who oversaw the election contributed to the calmness witnessed during the poll.

"A lot of training was done from the lowest cadre to the top. This training was conducted with other stakeholders," she said.

Lamet was speaking at Safari Park Hotel on Monday during the launch of IEBC's post-election evaluation report for the August 9, 2022 poll.

Lamet further noted that officers from prisons and National Youth Service who were involved in the elections were also trained.

"They were also trained because they guarded ballots, polling stations and even the national talying centre," she added.

"I also want to thank stakeholders who provided other services like election security manuals for our officers."

Lamet said the National Police Service will continue to foster closer partnerships with IEBC and stakeholders involved in the management of elections.
