On the radar: IEBC to conduct by-elections in four regions

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will today conduct by-elections for Kandara and Garissa Township Constituencies, Elgeyo Marakwet County and Sheila Ward, Lamu County.

Voters will be allowed to vote until 5 pm.

The by-elections come after the appointments of Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Aden Duale (Garissa Township) into the Cabinet.

Murkomen was appointed as the Transport CS, Wahome for the Ministry of Water and Aden Duale for the Ministry of Defence.

Court to rule on bail for Mulot sim swap 'mastermind'

The key suspect behind the infamous Mulot SIM swap fraudsters Hilary Langat Matindwet alias David Mutai will today know whether he will be granted bail or not.

Mutai who was on Tuesday detained at the Muthaiga police station in Nairobi will be back today at the Kiambu law courts where chief magistrate Meresia Opondo is expected to deliver the bail ruling.

Mutai was arrested on suspicion of being the head of a cartel that hijack a victim’s mobile details before using them to gain access to sensitive personal data and bank accounts through mobile banking applications.

Health Taskforce Committee to hand over the report to Sakaja

The recently appointed Health Taskforce Committee Chaired by Dr Gitahi Githinji will hand over its report to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja at the Charter hall, City hall.

The event will be presided over by Health CEC Anastasia Nyalita.

Other leaders who will attend include Deputy Governor, County Secretary, CECS, CCOs, the union, and health partners, among others.

Ruto to chair cabinet retreat in Nyeri

President William Ruto has summoned his Cabinet for a five-day retreat. starting today.

The retreat is said to be for the executive arm of government that included advisers and Principal Secretaries.

The agenda is to adopt the administration's economic transformation plan based on priorities such as food security and job creation.

Pope Francis to preside over the burial of Pope Benedict XVI 

Pope Benedict XVI  will be laid to rest in the tombs beneath the Basilica - where more than 90 pontiffs are buried - according to his final wishes.

Pope Francis will preside over the funeral - the first time a sitting Pope has led his predecessor's funeral in over 220 years, the Vatican says.

The former Pope died on New Year's Eve at the age of 95, almost a decade after standing down because of ill health.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the funeral in St Peter's Square, in front of St Peter's Basilica, at 9:30 local time (8:30 GMT).

Other leaders will be there in unofficial capacities - including King Philippe of Belgium and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as the leaders of Poland and Hungary, the Catholic news agency reports.

US college fraud mastermind  will go to jail

The man known as the architect of the notorious US college admissions scandal has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

William "Rick" Singer funnelled money to university coaches from wealthy parents to secure the admission of their children to elite colleges.

More than 50 people have been convicted for their role in the scandal.

Among those convicted are actors Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, who were clients of Singer.
