It was a moment of surprise and joy as legendary music producer Clemo appeared for vetting at the Nairobi county assembly.
Clement Rapudo Sijenyi, alias Clemo was accompanied by Genge artist, Jua Cali.
Some MCAs could not hold back but commend the two legends for their contribution to Kenya’s music industry.
While appearing before the county assembly committee, Clemo said if given a chance youths in Nairobi will never think of indulging in drugs and crime.
“All my life I have been doing community service where I take up people with totally nothing and after nurturing they turn out to be big names in the society,” he said
Clemo was shortlisted as the county chief officer for Culture, Arts and Tourism by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The Star has also established that he was the chairman of the committee that planned the just concluded Nairobi Festival.
Clemo together with Jua Cali conceptualised Calif Records in 1998, a music recording stable that would later alter Kenya’s music landscape in the year 2000.
Clemo studied food science at the university, but his passion was in music.
While still in his first year at the university, he started producing music in his parent’s living room in California Estate, Nairobi.
His love for electronics helped him to build the record company’s rudimentary studio equipment.
Calif record later became home to various artists such as Pilipili, Flexx, Lady S, Jimwat, Mejja, Nonini and many more.
