Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the company of Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen presided over the launch of the first commercial flight by Skyward Express from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Kakamega town.
The inaugural flight on Wednesday comes less than a week after President William Ruto commissioned the newly rehabilitated Kakamega Airstrip on December 9.
The people of Western Kenya have been in dire need of flight services.
The Dp said the Kenya Kwanza administration remains keen to grow partnerships with the private sector, including airline operators.
"This is in our quest to improve the country’s business environment. Air transport should no longer be a luxury for the chosen few," Gachagua said.
