Over 121 boys aged 11 years and below sodomised in 9 months - KHIS

Over 121 boys under the age of 11 years were sodomised in Nairobi county between the months of January and September.

This is according to data from the Kenya Health Information system.

The same statistics show that 87 boys aged between 12 and 17 were defiled while there were 1,568 rape cases among young girls.

“552 girls below the age of 11 were also defiled between January and September,” the data said.

The President’s Advisor on Women's Rights Harriette Chiggai said that this rise in cases of defilement is worrying.

“It is said that the culprits are young men, some police officers and some pastors, who initiate young men into sex cults,” she said.

On a visit to Gender-Based Violence Centres and Safe Houses in Nairobi county on Friday, she put perpetrators on notice.

She said they target both the young, the mentally challenged and the elderly who may be molested in a thicket or at the victim's house.

In collaboration with the Nairobi County Gender-based violence coordinator, Roselyn Mukabana, they vowed to incorporate the police in tracking down GBV offenders.
