Safaricom launches M-Pesa Go targeting teens

It will allow subscribers to send and receive money, purchase airtime and bundles

Kenya's leading telco Safaricom has launched M-Pesa Go, a new financial product which will target teens and preteens aged between 10 to 17 years.

ICT CS Eliud Owalo was present present at the launch. 

M-Pesa Go will allow subscribers to send and receive money, purchase airtime and bundles, use Lipa na M-Pesa services and access M-Pesa Super App dubbed as 'M-Pesa Go App.'

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the service will be oversighted  by parents or guardians to raise a financially healthy generation. 

"The service seeks to empower parents and guardians to raise a financially healthy generation who are prepared for a cashless world," he said.

Ndegwa said the current generation has been born into technology, the internet and a cashless world, adding they are seeking inclusion and independence in this digital world. 

"Parents and guardians need the tools to guide and protect them," he said.
