UDA asks members to declare interest in Kandara, Elgeyo Marakwet seats

The by-election for the areas will be held on January 5, 2023.

United Democratic Alliance has invited all interested and qualified registered party members intending to participate in the forthcoming by-elections to submit their application for party primaries on or before November 11, 2022.

In a notice issued on November 1, 2022, UDA chairman Anthony Mwaura said the vacancies are for the Member of Parliament for Kandara, Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet and MCA for Shella Ward in Lamu County.

The application should be via the UDA website www.uda.ke or www.leaders.uda.ke/nominations.

For positions of the MCA, male candidates will be required to pay Sh50,000 for the nomination fee, and Sh25,000 for women, youths and Persons with disability.

For the MP slot, male candidates will pay a nomination fee of Sh250,000, for women, youths and Persons with a disability will pay Sh125,000.

Persons eyeing the Senate position will pay Sh250,000 and Sh125,000 will be paid by women, youths and Persons with disability.

All payments will be required to be paid via MPESA using the paybill number 888092 and the account number will be the aspirant Identification Card (ID).

Another option will be to deposit the money at Equity Bank Limited at the Supreme Centre Branch, account number 0810280788414.

In a gazette notice dated, October 28, 2022, the electoral commission announced that the by-election for the areas will be held on January 5, 2023.

The Chebukati-led commission directed that political parties that wish to participate should submit the names of their candidates before November 14, 2022.

The latest comes after the previous members' resignation following their appointment to President William Ruto's cabinet.

Kandara's parliamentary seat was previously occupied by Alice Wahome who was recently sworn in as Cabinet Secretary (CS) for water and sanitation.

The Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial position was previously occupied by Kipchumba Murkomen who is the current CS for Transport and Public works.
