Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu has called for review of other funds that were earlier initiated before President William Ruto launches the Hustler Fund.

Speaking on Thursday at a local TV station, Makali said the government should understand why the earlier funds failed.

"We have had the Women fund, Youth fund, Uwezo fund, take time and look at the performance evaluation reports of these funds and look at the reasons why they have not been successful," Makali urged.

He added that picking lessons from the earlier funds would help the Hustler Fund succeed.

"If the Hustler Fund is not informed by the lesson learnt as a result of those funds, it is going to fail," Makali stated.

Makali urged the government not to rush with the implementation of the Hustler Fund.

Recently, the Hustler Fund sparked a debate that it was simply a replication of the earlier funds.

President William Ruto had declared that the Hustler fund would hit the ground in December.

"The Hustler Fund will be ready by December. It will be accessed through Saccos without any security. Get ready for single-digit interest rate lending," Ruto said.

President Ruto said the fund would benefit low-income earners popularly referred to as ‘hustlers’ without collateral.

Ruto said the Sh50 billion annual kitty will be channelled towards supporting micro, small and medium, enterprises (MSMEs).

The funds will be channelled through credit societies and investment groups.
