Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot on Thursday praised Azimio chief Raila Odinga for critiscing the government.

In a tweet, Aukot said Raila was rightfully putting President William Ruto's government in check.

"Jakom Raila Odinga is now back to what he knows best. The government must be put on its toes to account for the expenditure of public funds. It's time for PunguzaMizigo," he said.

Raila, the chief opposition leader, has in the recent days been vocal about how Ruto is running the government.

On Tuesday, Raila, who was accompanied by Embakasi MP Babu Owino and Lang'ata MP Felix Odiwour, among other leaders attended Bunge la Wananchi meeting where he hit out at President William Ruto's government.

He took the opportunity to remind Kenyans to be vigilant and defend the democratic gains the country had made.

"I listened and encouraged them to remain vigilant of our hard-won constitutional rights. Freedom of association and speech is a key pillar of our democracy," Raila said.

The opposition chief faulted Ruto's administration for lifting subsidies, saying that the move had left Kenyans unprotected.

Raila added that the cost of fuel is set to hit the roof again this week.

Raila came to the defence of former president Uhuru Kenyatta, saying he knew how to protect Kenyans, adding that Ruto has failed to do so for the few days he has been in office.

"Every time they were blaming Uhuru, but he was doing what other heads of state were doing worldwide. Uhuru protected Kenyans from the effects of the Russia and Ukraine wars. But now they have said that it is unsustainable, this week the price of fuel will go up again," Raila said.

Raila said that President William Ruto had promised to lower the cost of fuel but it has instead gone up.
