Death toll in Kiambu building tragedy rises to three

Three people have been killed and six injured after a building under construction collapsed at Kirigiti Shopping Centre.

The six-storey building was under construction.

The combined efforts to rescue those trapped were coordinated by a multi-agency team led by the Kiambu County Fire & Disaster Management Department, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Police Service and volunteers.

Also present was governor Kimani Wamatangi among other county leaders.

Addressing the media, the governor urged all the contractors to be mindful and follow all the approvals.

He said that the county will carry out an audit of the projects under construction to avert danger.

"It's very unfortunate that this has to happen, so far we have recorded 3 death while six have been injured," he said.
