CJ Koome skips MPs induction after Azimio threatened to walk out

Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday missed the induction of members of the National Assembly and instead was represented by President of the Court of Appeal, Daniel Musinga.

Koome was to address the 13th Parliament on the interlinkages and inter-dependence between Parliament and the Judiciary.

In the morning, a section of Azimio lawmakers threatened to stage a walkout on the CJ over what they termed dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Willliam Ruto’s win.

The lawmakers led by Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo and Nyando MP Jared Okelo said they take offence with the language used by the Chief Justice in dismissing the Azimio petition.

Members of the National Assembly on Monday started a week-long induction workshop.

The induction which is underway at the Safari Park Hotel and will end on Saturday, September 24,  2022.

According to the programme released by the Office of the Clerk, the legislators were expected to arrive at the Safari Park Hotel by Sunday evening.    

On Monday, they will be taken through their roles, the state of the economy, diplomacy and reputation.
