Kenya's tennis star Angela Okutoyi has bowed out of the US Open girls' singles tournament following her loss to eighth seed, Australian Taylah Preston, on Monday night.

Okutoyi blew hot and cold in the second-round match, bouncing back from an initial 6-2 loss to claim the second set 7-6 before she eventually crumbled 6-1 in the tie-breaker.

The Kenyan had a flying start to her campaign, after seeing off German Carolina Kuhl in the first round on Sunday.

Against Kuhl, she secured straight sets of 7-6 7-5 to book a berth in the second round.

Okutoyi had hoped to reach the quarterfinals, a step above her previous effort in Australia, where she bowed out in the third round.

She now shifts attention to the doubles where she will renew her partnership with Dutch player Rose Marie Nijkamp.

The two have been drawn against the pair of Qavia Lopez and Johanne Christine in the first round of the doubles.

Okutoyi and Nijkamp met on Instagram and partnered to win the Wimbledon Doubles title on June 20.

They beat Canadians Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko 3-6 6-4 and 11-9 in the final of the Wimbledon Open doubles Junior Championships at the grass courts of All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Then on September 3, Okutoyi partnered with Poland's Malwina Rowinska to clinch the J1 Repentigny Doubles at Larochelle Park in Canada.

Okutoyi opened a new chapter in history by becoming the first Kenyan to be crowned champion at a Grand Slam event.
