Police have arrested a 27-year-old man suspected to have killed his mother in Migingo village, Kisumu county.

The man is suspected to have set his mother ablaze after dousing her in paraffin on Sunday.

Rabuor DCI officers visited the scene and established that the deceased, a deputy principal of Migingo Girls high school, was staying in the school compound with the suspect.

"There was soot on the wall and kerosene in a cup at the door of the bathroom and a kitchen knife was recovered beside the body. And in the kitchen, there was a lantern lamp with kerosene that is believed to have been used to attack the deceased," DCI said on Monday.

The body of the deputy principal was found burnt in her house within the school compound on Sunday.

According to a police report, the incident was reported on Sunday around 8 pm.

The body was found by the suspect's brother who had gone to visit his mother at the school and when he knocked on the door, it was closed from inside.

He said he heard movements inside the house and immediately his brother opened the door.

When he entered the house, he found the bathroom door opened and the mother was burnt beyond recognition.

The body was moved to the Star Annext Morgue in Kisumu awaiting autopsy.
