Boni Khalwale wins Kakamega senatorial seat

Khalwale was the first Kakamega senator after being elected in 2013.

Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has recaptured the seat in the just concluded general elections.

He garnered 247,860 votes against his closest competitor Brian Lishenga who got 195,052 votes.

Lishenga thanked the residents of Kakamega for trusting in his ability even though he could not clinch the seat.

"Thank you Kakamega people for showing such high confidence in a young upstart politician. I look forward to continuing working with you for a brighter future," he said.

Khalwale was the first Kakamega senator after being elected in 2013.

He unsuccessfully gave a stab at the governor seat in 2017 but lost to outgoing Kakamega governor Wycliffe Opranya.

He dropped his gubernatorial bid in 2022 in favour of ANC candidate Cleophas Malala to vie for the senator seat.

Khalwale was contesting for the seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
