A lobby group has called on political leaders and Kenyans to give IEBC officials ample time to continue with their mandate.

The National Peace and Mediation Team said IEBC officials need to be accorded support as counting gets underway.

The team told leaders and Kenyans to avoid giving the officials unreasonable pressure during this period.

"Whatever the outcome of the presidential election and all the other positions, we call for calm and restrain from all cites and parties that will feel aggrieved we call for calm and pursue acceptable, legal and constitutional means to seek redress," they said.

They said people should wait for official communication from IEBC before making conclusions on anything.

"We ask all Kenyans to continue receiving the results peaceful until the persons selected for respective positions are announced by IEBC."

"We are committed to working closely with all relevant seconders including political parties and ensure continued peace, harmony, security and unity among all Kenyans,"  they said.

They, however, noted that the elections were peaceful in major parts of the country apart from a few cases.

"Our observers said there was generally peaceful voting in most parts of the country, apart from isolated incidences of violence in Wajir, Garissa, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Mandera, Kisumu among others," they said.
