Deputy President William Ruto running mate Rigathi Gachagua has urged youths not to sell their Identification Cards to the chiefs ahead of Tuesday's elections.
Speaking at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, he claimed that the plans to buy IDs from youths by chiefs was still in the pipeline in order to make sure they don't get votes.
"To our youths, don't accept to sell your Identification Cards to the chiefs. Msiuze kesho yenu (Don't sell your future to the youths). We know there are plans by the chief to buy IDs," he said.
At the same time, he told chiefs to stay first and not be intimidated by the Ministry officials who he claimed are forcing them to be politically involved with the elections.
"We want to tell the chiefs who are claiming to be intimidated by the Ministry of interior top bosses, msitishwe and don't engage in politics,' Gachagua added.
Earlier in the week, Ruto allies targeting the Interior Ministry on charges of plotting to use chiefs to rig the election in favour of Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
In a letter to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati dated July 30, UDA claimed the Office of the President was “deploying police officers to intimidate, harass, and coerce voters to support Raila.”
UDA further claimed Interior PS, Interior CS and the President have separately chaired meetings with police commanders, chiefs, county commissioners and other officers to relay the instructions.
However, Kibicho dismissed the claims saying that there was nothing of the sort, and that Deputy President William Ruto and his team are only talking “because the shoe is on the other foot.”
In addition, Gachagua expressed his gratitude to Kenyans and leaders who have shown support and have accepted the Kenya Kwanza presidency.
"We have reached to the end of the campaigns and on behalf of our leader William Ruto we want to say thank you. We started this journey with a journey vision and we are ending on a high note," he said
Gachagua called on voters to vote for him and Ruto claiming the ball was in their court.
"What has remained is for our voters and those who believe in us to cast their votes and vote for the Kenya Kwanaza coalition.
