South African comedian and TV host Trevor Noah, 37, has sued a New York orthopedic surgeon, following a 'botched' surgery.
According to South Africa's Daily Voice website, the surgery left him “sick, sore, lame and disabled”.
Noah has not revealed the exact condition that necessitated the surgery.
Dr Riley Williams III is said to have performed the procedure at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
The suit was filed by Justin Blitz of Schulman Blitz LLP on November 29 in the New York County Supreme Court.
The surgeon is accused of allegedly failing “to use proper tests and examinations in order to diagnose the conditions from which Noah was suffering”.
He is also accused of failing to prescribe proper medication and not discontinuing certain prescription drugs.
The suit also states that the doctor did inform Noah of the risks of the procedure, nor did he give alternatives.
The lawsuit said, “A reasonably prudent person in the position of the plaintiff would have refused the treatment rendered, had they been so informed of the risks, hazards, and alternatives to the treatment rendered.”
The hospital acknowledged receiving Noah's complaint, Daily Voice said, adding that the facility said it had shared a detailed rebuttal to his claims "which are meritless".
