Matt and Daisy Mazzoncini narrate their case to the Star in April

Baby Kiano, the Kenyan male infant violently separated from his adoptive parents in April this year was reunited with the American couple on Wednesday.

A source at the Lang'ata Road-based Children Welfare Society of Kenya said the child was handed back to his adoptive parents after hours of meeting at the facility.

"I can confirm the child has been handed over to the [adoptive] parents three hours ago under unclear circumstances," the source confided with the Star without giving details.

Among others who attended the meeting include Social Services PS Nelson Marwa, Kabete OCPD and DCIO, the couple and their lawyer Martha Karua.

It is not clear what agreements were reached in the negotiations as the habeas corpus case the couple had filed in April is yet to be determined.

The court is expected to give its verdict on September 19.

We were not able to have both Karua and Marwa to confirm the development as they did not return our calls nor respond to our messages.

Patently, this is a massive reprieve to the couple as getting back the custody of the boy has always been their cry.

The story of Baby Kiano captured the country's imagination after the Star exclusively reported his violent confiscation from his parent's Westlands apartments in Nairobi by DCI and CWSK agents on a Friday night in April.

Matt and Daisy Mazzoncini told the Star then that the officers, led by one Baraza, said they were carrying out a ‘child rescue operation' in the interest of the three-year-old.

Eleven men accompanied by women in hoods broke into their apartment and took away the boy without any court order, they said.

The couple accused the children society of frustrating them in their journey to adopt the child from 2016 with unending demand for bribes and harassment.

The Kenya-based US couple claimed they found the child dumped in a plastic bag in Kiambu near a prayer centre in 2016 and have used up to Sh11 million in his medication.

Daisy came to the country from Britain on the invitation of her friend identified as Bishop Margaret Gathoni in 2016 as a missionary while her husband works in New York, USA, and commutes to Nairobi every week.

He is a former Starbucks executive.

The Children Welfare Society has recently been a subject of extensive adverse publicity, with claims that it is ridden with cartels that smuggle children.

It is also accused of frustrating those willing to adopt children while keeping the young ones in filthy and concentrated rooms, exposing their health to risk.
