Limuru sub county director of education Claris Mwita congratulates children government in Limuru deputy speaker Dnason Ng'ang'a at Manguo primary school after the elections.

Limuru subcounty pupils have formed a Children’s Government, similar to the national government, complete with a Cabinet.

In elections held on Monday at Manguo Primary School, Mark Lenny Muchiri from Tigoni Primary School was elected President, while Gabriel Kimani from Kiawanda Primary School was voted Deputy President.

David Githagui is the Speaker and Danson Ng’ang’a is the Deputy Speaker.

Among Cabinet Secretaries are Mary Mukami (Education), Ivy Wamucii (Justice and Peace), Hannah Wanjiku (Environment, Health and Sanitation) and Stephen Okola (ICT and External Affairs).

Other CSs include Francis Mukula (Sports and Culture) and Marion Brenda (Welfare).

Muchiri urged pupils to work hard to get high marks in national exams.

“My office will ensure all pupils attain quality education. I will be visiting various schools to ensure every pupil is comfortable with how learning is being conducted,” the President said.

Limuru subcounty Education director Claris Mwita said the Children’s Government will be replicated throughout the county and later to the national level, where the National Children’s President will be elected.

Muchiri urged the pupils to pray for him so that he is elected at all levels, saying this was a government strategy to educate pupils in leadership and relations.

Other officials present at the Children’s Government election were Manguo Primary School head teacher Teresiah Ng’ang’a, Kenya Primary Schools Associations’ Limuru subcounty chairman Joseph Mathenge and treasurer Rosemary Kago, as well as other teachers.

Meanwhile, Mwita urged parents and education stakeholders to support the state’s strategies to improve the quality of education.

She said the strategies include involving students in school leadership, where they are represented in decision making.

“Education stakeholders and parents must continue supporting education because we sharpen the children in terms of education, role playing in society, how they relate with each other at school and in the estates,” Mwita said.

“In 20 years, we hope to see our pupils being very important people in society, educated, well-behaved and role models. I am sure they will find it important to come back to these schools to motivate other pupils”.
