CELEBRATED disc jockey and music entrepreneur Kabochi Gakau aka DJ Kaytrixx has joined the murky waters of politics.

The 26-year-old father of two says he is not joining the “boring kind of politics” but rather, “looking for a chance to offer proper leadership.”

Kaytrixx – who is also the CEO at entertainment company Spin Cycle – told Word Is that he is expectant that his kind of politics will offer different kind of leadership, aiming at bringing positive impact to the community.

“Mere politics doesn't help. People get too caught up in it and forget to do the work they were elected for. There are so many self-sustaining projects that can be started for the youth, and other categories of our population, and that will be my focus if elected.”

In 2017, the DJ will be vying for the Mikindani ward MCA seat in Mombasa, on party ticket yet to be announced.

He says: “In Mikindani, many youth have immense talents but no amount of nurturing, or facilities, is available. There are numerous problems in sectors like water, garbage, security and infrastructure. Drugs use and abuse is also a huge challenge. It therefore requires radical changes and I believe people of Mikindani will support me in bringing the change we so desperately need.”

Is it the end of Kaytrixx the entertainer then?

“Never! Spin Cycle is strong and self-sustaining and personally (even when elected) I will still be doing my events, farming and other projects. I am also in the process of setting up a DJ Academy, so my work as an entertainer will never stop. All I am doing for now is to urge my people to first register themselves up as voters,” says Kaytixx.
