OUTGOING Nyanza regional coordinator Francis Mutie has asked for forgiveness from Rift Valley residents for any wrongdoing in the handling of the Kibigori violence.
He said he worked in the Rift Valley for 11 years and would not want to be in the residents’ bad book over the issue.
During the violence on the Nandi-Kisumu border, Mutie accused security officers in the Rift Valley of not cooperating to recover and return animals stolen from Nyanza.
This angered leaders from the Rift Valley, with Nandi Senator Stephen Sang demanding an apology.
Mutie accused politicians of inciting and feeding the attackers.
The regional coordinator accused chiefs from the Rift Valley of colluding and allowing mobilisation of more than 500 attackers.
Handing over to new regional coordinator Wilson Njega on Friday, Mutie said he is leaving Nyanza a happy government officer.
Njega urged residents to help the government to fight crime.
“I am here to serve you and please feel free to work with me. My office will be open, share with me any information that you think will improve the security of this region,” he said.
Mutie, who has served in Nyanza since July 22, 2009, has been transferred to Harambee House in Nairobi.
Njega was transferred from Nyandarua county.
Mutie also apologised to Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma.
He had given a 90-day notice to Ranguma to vacate the former provincial building or pay rent to the national government.
