YOUTH employed to repair roads at Jomvu in Mikindani, Mombasa county, held a protest march on Monday over delayed pay.

Each of them wants to be paid Sh8,400 in arrears.

The workers said they were forced to strike after their efforts to reach their MP Badi Twalib to listen to their complaints hit a snag.

Their spokesperson Andrew Mwasi said they have been working on Ganahola road for three months.

Mwasi said they were supposed to be paid Sh500 each by the contractor and Sh100 each by the Jomvu CDF but they are still waiting for the wages.

“For the last week, we have not been paid the extra Sh100,” Mwasi said.

He said the working conditions are deplorable and they have no safety equipment.
