Mobile money remained the most widely used channel for receiving cash remittances in Kenya.
This is according to the 2025 Remittances Household Survey conducted by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and FSD Kenya.
The survey found that 46.5 per cent of cash remittance inflows were received through mobile money.
Banks emerged as the second most used channel, accounting for 34.9 per cent of remittance inflows.
Money transfer operators also handled a significant share of remittances.
The findings indicate a strong preference for formal remittance channels, which offer greater security, traceability and convenience.
The survey further highlights the increasing role of mobile money in expanding access to remittance services, particularly among households in areas with limited banking infrastructure.
Overall, the report points to a gradual shift towards digital and regulated channels for receiving funds from abroad.
