What is Easter Monday?/HILLARY BETT

Easter Monday is a Christian holiday observed the day after Easter Sunday, marking the continuation of celebrations of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It is part of the Easter Octave, an eight-day period that begins on Easter Sunday and extends through the following Sunday, with each day holding special religious significance.

Within this period, Easter Monday is regarded as the second day, emphasising renewal, hope, and the triumph of life over death.

The day is also referred to as Bright Monday or Renewal Monday in various traditions, reflecting themes of joy and spiritual rebirth.

While its religious meaning is rooted in commemorating Christ’s resurrection following his crucifixion, Easter Monday is also widely recognised as a public holiday in many countries, including Kenya.

Its date changes each year, depending on when Easter Sunday falls, which is determined by the lunar calendar. Overall, it serves as a time for reflection, rest, and continued celebration.
