Television remains a dominant force in Kenyan households, with the latest viewership data for the first quarter of 2025/26 showing high engagement levels across the country.
Nairobi leads the nation in viewership, with a staggering 81% of the population tuning in between July and September 2025. This urban center is closely followed by the Upper Eastern region at 80% and the Central region at 78%.
The Lake Region and Lower Eastern also show robust engagement, with viewership rates of 74% and 72% respectively. These figures, released by the Communications Authority of Kenya, demonstrate the enduring power of television as a primary source of information and entertainment, even as digital alternatives continue to grow.
When it comes to the content driving these numbers, there is a perfect three-way split in audience interest. News, Entertainment/Drama, and Sports are all tied at 32.4% each.
This equal distribution highlights a diverse national appetite, where the need for timely information through news is balanced by the demand for leisure through sports and scripted storytelling. This data reflects a stable media environment where traditional broadcasting continues to play a central role in the daily lives of Kenyans, serving as a vital bridge for both community connection and national discourse.
