When a child develops a high fever, prompt care is essential. First, check the temperature using a digital thermometer. If it’s above 38°C (100.4°F), keep the child hydrated with plenty of fluids and dress them in light clothing.
Use a lukewarm sponge bath to help lower body temperature. Paracetamol or ibuprofen may be given, but only in age-appropriate doses as advised by a healthcare provider. Avoid cold baths or alcohol rubs.
Seek immediate medical attention if the fever exceeds 39.5°C (103°F), lasts more than three days, or is accompanied by seizures, breathing difficulties, or persistent vomiting.
