Kenya's solar energy production has demonstrated remarkable growth from the 2020/21 financial year through 2024/25. In the initial period of 2020/21, total solar energy generated was 87.94 GWh.
The following year, 2021/22, saw a significant leap to 312.99 GWh. This upward trend continued, with generation reaching 443.95 GWh in 2022/23.
The generation stabilised in the subsequent years, posting 473.62 GWh in 2023/24 and a nearly identical 473.32 GWh in 2024/25.
The monthly generation figures for 2024 showed inherent variability, ranging from a low of 31.34 GWh in July to a peak of 44.88 GWh in December.
These fluctuations in energy generation are primarily attributed to natural variations in solar insolation, indicating the reliance of the energy source on consistent sunlight.
Overall, the five-year period illustrates Kenya's increasing commitment to, and output from, solar power.
