EAC trade with Kenya (Sh bn)

Kenya’s trade with its East African Community (EAC) partners has come under pressure, with exports in 2024 dropping by about Sh7.3 billion compared to the previous year, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.

Uganda remains Kenya’s largest market within the bloc, though sales there fell slightly.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, however, has emerged as the fastest-growing destination for Kenyan goods, recording a 56 per cent surge in exports in the first quarter of 2024 following a reduction in wheat import duties.

Despite this growth, Kenya faces increasing competition as other EAC countries expand their production capacity.
