In Summary

As of July 21, the NCIC is actively investigating 23 hate speech cases, most of them linked to political actors.

Out of these, 14 individuals have already been questioned, five ignored official summons, and three are yet to appear before the commission.

Notably, only two cases have been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for prosecution.

Alarmingly, NCIC reveals that nearly 75% of the suspects belong to the ruling coalition.

The figures underscore the rising use of tribal and identity-driven rhetoric in Kenya’s political landscape.

NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia reiterated concern over politicians deploying divisive slogans that risk tearing apart the country’s fragile social fabric.

The commission’s ongoing crackdown reflects an urgent call for responsible political messaging and stricter enforcement of the law.

As Kenya approaches another election cycle, the NCIC is urging leaders to promote unity and refrain from fueling ethnic tensions.
