International Day of the African Child

International Day of the African Child was launched by the Assembly of Heads of State of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1991.

It is commemorated on 16 June each year.

This day honours those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976.

The theme for the 2025 International Day of the African Child is Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights: Progress since 2010.
