The national government’s pending bills dropped by Sh118.3 billion in the first quarter of the year as the State began settling approved arrears.
According to new Treasury data, pending bills decreased from Sh539.9 billion at the end of December 2024 to Sh421.6 billion as of March 31, 2025.
The Exchequer says ministries and State departments have been authorised to clear approved bills, while arrears in the roads sector will be settled through a bond to be issued by the Kenya Roads Board (KRB).
Pending bill is an unpaid invoice or bill that a government entity owes to suppliers, contractors, and service providers for services and goods that have already been received.
