Kenya’s electoral integrity remains under scrutiny.
While the 2022 general election was lauded for its transparency and technological advancements, including biometric voter identification and public result portals, public confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has waned.
A December 2024 Infotrak poll revealed that 54% of Kenyans doubt the IEBC's ability to conduct free and fair elections in 2027, citing concerns over transparency, corruption, and independence.
The European Union Election Follow-up Mission in February 2025 noted limited progress on recommended reforms, emphasizing the urgent need to reconstitute the IEBC and ensure its independence and adequate funding.
