World Economic Forum has highlighted the projected decline in China's working-age population (defined as those aged 20-59 years) over the coming decades.
In 2023, the working-age population constituted 47 per cent of the total population.
However, projections indicate a substantial decrease to just 36 per cent by the end of the century.
By the end of the century, more than half of the Chinese population will be aged 60 and over, underscoring the profound demographic shift underway in China.
