Main source of livelihoods in Kenya: 2019, 2021 and 2024

Reliance on agriculture dropped from 18.3 percent in 2021 to 17.9 percent in 2024.

    The survey results showed that casual labor was the main source of livelihoods for most respondents at 26.5 percent.

    While this result is consistent with the 2021 survey results, it was however lower than the proportion reported in 2021 of 30.1 percent.

    Reliance on agriculture as a source of livelihood dropped from 18.3 percent in 2021 to 17.9 percent in 2024, while employment saw an increase from 11.4 percent to 13.2 percent over the same period.

    The proportion of respondents that derive livelihoods from operating businesses participation slightly rose from 15.0 percent in 2021 to 16.7 percent.
