Torrential rains that have been pounding several parts of the country have led to massive flooding in most areas rendering roads impassable.

The rains have also triggered mudslides in some regions leading to destruction of property and loss of lives.

Most recent incident occured Monday morning in Old Kijabe town in Mai Mahiu where an old railway tunnel that had collected water gave way.

Raging waters destroyed homesteads downstream leading to dozens of deaths and scores others missing.

Preliminary reports put the death toll at 45 as search continued.
