Opposition Azimio coalition is facing a tough unity test after the second in command and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua distanced herself from the dialogue report, contradicting the group’s leadership.

Raila Odinga’s running mate in the 2022 presidential polls dismissed the National Dialogue Committee report as “troubling, problematic and unacceptable”, promising to give details in the new week.

The report omits the need for immediate action to lower the cost of living.

Karua’s opposition and that of former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, who sat in the committee, has sent distress signals to the coalition.

Observers say the duo could lead their outfits out of the group or cause detrimental factionalism.

The two politicians argue the cost of living question has not been adequately addressed in the bipartisan talks report, intended to calm tensions and possible violence.

Living costs were, however, the rallying cry of the opposition during bloody protests earlier in the year.

Raila, alongside Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, had last week told reporters that Karua had endorsed the report, dismissing talks of a rift in Azimio.
