The late President Mwai Kibaki had eight honorary degrees to his name throughout his political career.
An honorary degree is an academic degree for which a university (or other degree-awarding institution) has waived all of the usual requirements.
The late head of state received a total of eight of those degrees in a span of 13 years between 2003 and 2016.
The first honorary degree was awarded by the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2003 soon after Kibaki become president.
The university awarded him the Doctor of Science Honorary degree.
