A TikTok video doing rounds indicating that Defence Minister Aden Duale said that Opposition Leader Raila Odinga won the 2022 general election has been altered.

A TikTok user by the name Getagonda captioned the video “It’s Ramadhan and I don’t want to lie, Raila Odinga won that election of 2022, by CS Duale”.

In the video, which was also posted on Facebook, the CS is heard saying  “I am a Muslim I don’t want to lie. Raila Odinga won that election of two thousand and... Through the action of the IEBC, the difference was about 200,000 votes when really proper tallying was done. But you can win”.

The true position is the CS was interviewed in 2021 on matters elections. We came across the original video by performing a Google reverse search of a screenshot from the video. In the original video, Duale said that the opposition leader won the 2007 elections but not the 2022 one.

“The difference was about 200,000 votes when really proper tallying was done. But you could win at that time, we were under the old constitution and the 50 plus one margin was not there … So, and I am a Muslim I do not want to lie, Raila Odinga won that election of 2007,” Duale says in the original video.
