A social media post indicating that former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu had criticised the nomination of Winnie Odinga to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) is fake.

Winnie Odinga is the daughter of the ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.

A Twitter account operating under the Twitter handle ‘@ngunjiriwambug’ and which uses the username of the ex-MP “Hon Ngunjiri Wambugu, CBS, MP” shared a post condemning Winnie’s nomination.

“It's wrong to Azimio and Raila Odinga to nominate his Daughter Winnie Odinga to EALA. It's so sad. Absolutely sad. Am sad. We supported Raila, lost our seats but we are locked out. It's annoying!” the account tweeted.

The Fact-Checker has, however, found out that the post is misleading and the MP has not made such remarks.

Using his official Twitter account, the MP clarified that the post is fake and that the social media account which operates under his name is a parody account.

“These guys need to stop with these fake accounts. When I have something to say, I always say it; without help. Saa hii nauza chai na mandazi pale Nyeri Town. Siasa is for later,” he tweeted.

Though the Twitter handle ‘@ngunjiriwambugu’ is not verified, this fact-checker reached out to him and he confirmed to us that indeed the Twitter handle is his.
