FALSE: Schools are not opening on August 22

"We apologize for any inconvenience occasioned by these changes and ask for your indulgence, s we work through ensuring the safety and comfort of learners through this period," it further reads.

The Star Fact-checker has, however, debunked the statement and established that the opening date had been forged and changed from the original idea which had stated that schools will open on, Thursday, August 18, 2022 (Today).

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha had directed schools to resume on August 18.

The disruptions on school opening day were due to the August 9 general election.

Magoha released a statement on August 13, 2022, clarifying that students will no longer be required to report to school on Monday, August 15, 2022, as earlier communicated.

"I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the re-opening of all Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August 2022 until Thursday 18th August 2022," the statement read.
