Two women leaders allied to ODM chief Raila Odinga have drawn ire following their machinations that saw a leader from their region removed from a plum position in the recent changes made by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration. The changes have ignited grumbles on how the two, accused of wearing gender lenses, forgot to think of a replacement from the region when they concentrated on fighting their own. Those following the changes say the post would have been best handed to an expert from region, or a woman for that matter, since the contention was that the previous holder was fighting women. Now the two politicians are walking with egg on their faces fearing that the removal of the man might have a bearing in their leadership prospects.

A first-term governor seeking reelection is appointing former elected leaders in his administration, hoping that they will boost his chances of winning the seat. Most of those who have been given a new political lifeline served as councillors in the defunct local authorities. The governor is leaving nothing to chance but locals argue that the county boss may not achieve much by recycling political rejects. One of those fished from the cold is a former chairman of a town council. Others include former parliamentary and ward aspirants. The governor has appointed them as directors, liaison officers and village administrators.

Junior and hardworking police officers at a station within Pangani division are up in arms. Reason? They accuse their seniors at the station of resorting to protecting criminals. A small bird within the station, which historically does not have a good record, whispered to Corridors of Power that criminals and suspects of drug trafficking are released unceremoniously after parting with hefty bribes to the chagrin of the arresting officers. The senior officers have also mapped out areas where they regularly collect bribes making work for junior officers hell on earth. The collection of bribes in the recent past has caused friction from the force as officers compete to have their portion.
